Our paper „Anonymized Counting of Nonstationary Wi-Fi Devices When Monitoring Crowds” got accepted at ACM MSWiM 2022! In the paper, we describe an approach to anonymously count nonstationary Wi-Fi devices (and only those!) when monitoring crowds. Previous anonymization approaches only allowed for the general counting of Wi-Fi devices, which included the counting of stationary devices such as printers or smart TVs. However, in crowd monitoring, only passengers should be counted via their nonstationary Wi-Fi devices such as smart phones to get accuracte counts. This is now realized for the first time through our novel anonymized counting method.
