The analysis and interpretation of language, literature, art, music and everyday culture are at the centre of research at School III. Their materiality and mediality, but also the way in which they are communicated, are the subjects of individual and collaborative research at the School. It benefits from the special combination of philologies, artistic and cultural studies subjects as well as its diverse methodological options: While the School's research in linguistics and didactics tends to be empirical, its research in literature and cultural studies is more theory-building, discourse-analytical or sociological. The traditionally strong individual projects are increasingly developing into alliances of various kinds, which also extend beyond the School.
