Gender Equality Plan
Gender Equality Plan
With the Gender Equality Plan, the University of Oldenburg has systematized its gender equality work and anchored important processes. A new gender equality plan is drawn up every 3-4 years in a participatory process to focus the university's gender equality agenda and set out concrete measures to achieve the goals.
New gender equality plan 2024 adopted
Implementation of the measures can begin
The development of a new Gender Equality Plan is complete: The Gender Equality Plan 2024 was adopted by mutual agreement between the University Senate and the Presidential Board of the UOL and is now entering the implementation phase. Among other things, the university aims to increase the proportion of female professors to 35 per cent by 2027.
The gender equality plan was developed by a working group of the Senate's ‚Kommission für Gleichstellung’ (Commission for Gender Equality). The plan contains four thematic priorities with targeted measures and thus builds on the previous plan. The organisational units are responsible for implementing the plan, which runs until December 2027.
A print version and other supporting materials are currently being prepared for distribution to the implementing organisational units. The Gender Equality Plan 2024 is available here as a PDF - unfortunately only in German.

Gender Equality Plan 2020
In February 2020, the Gender Equality Plan 2020 was adopted by the University's Senate as well as the Presidential Board, marking the first time a gender equality plan has been adopted at the Unviersity of Oldenburg. The plan was developed by a working group of the Committee for Gender Equality.
At the heart of the equality plan was a catalogue of 124 measures. The gender equality measures were the responsibility of different organizational units and faculties and were to be implemented by the end of 2022. The Gender Equality Plan 2020 also included an inventory of existing structures, regulations and programs on gender equality as well as a comprehensive analysis of strengths and weaknesses, which primarily depicts the gender ratio in various status groups and committees.
The Gender Equality Plan 2020 set four priorities for the university's gender equality strategy until 2022:
- A gender-sensitive university culture
- Promoting early career female researchers
- Recruitment of female scientists
- A diversity and anti-discrimination strategy
The catalogue of measures contained 124 measures carried out by different organisational units or of faculties. These measures included:
- Standards for promoting gender equality in the faculties (#2)
- a university network for gender equality (#3)
- Monitoring gender equality among doctoral students and doctorate academic staff (#6-7)
- a mentoring programme for early career female researchers (#59)
- a guideline and training on active recruitment (#76-79)
- a guideline on gender-sensitive language (#110)
- a diversity strategy (#118)
Evaluation of the Gender Equality Plan 2020
In July 2023, the university management approved and submitted the final report on the implementation of the Gender Equality Plan 2020 (only accessible internally and in German). This report describes the coordination and management of implementation, assesses the achievement of the targets, analyses the progress made in relation to the ten fields of action and four priorities of the equality plan and presents the final status of the individual measures. With the submission of this report, the implementation of the University's first gender equality plan has been completed successfully.
