Title: Textual Coherence and Cohesion in Written Work by Learners of German as a Foreign Language

Abstract: This doctoral thesis examines the development of writing competence in the area of text coherence and cohesion amongst advanced learners of German as a foreign language. The central aim of the doctoral project is to investigate how learners establish coherence in their texts and to what extent their writing competence develops in relation to their overall CEFR language level. The aim is to develop a practice-oriented framework for assessing and promoting writing competence in the classroom.
