As the start-up university in Oldenburg, we are one of the most popular universities for founders in Lower Saxony and rank third in the current Startup Monitor.
Oldenburg also performs really well in the Lower Saxony Startup Monitor 2026: 28.9 start-ups per 100,000 inhabitants. This means that Oldenburg continues to be one of the strongest start-up cities in Lower Saxony. The report also explicitly emphasises Oldenburg as a software hub in Lower Saxony's startup ecosystem.

This award shows that entrepreneurial spirit, innovation and start-up culture are firmly established in Oldenburg. Together with committed students, researchers, people interested in founding a company and strong partners, we create an environment in which ideas can grow and companies can emerge. We are delighted with this recognition and continue to work on promoting start-ups in the region and making them visible.
Innovative start-ups are not only created in the largest metropolises - but where ideas meet strong networks, short distances and real support. Whether it's an initial idea, prototype, financing, growth or networking with companies: In Oldenburg today, there is a diverse network of universities, funding institutions, businesses and community offerings that accompany founders on various stages of their journey.
