Prof Ruth Sonderegger
Ruth Sonderegger is Professor of Philosophy and Aesthetic Theory at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Until 2009, she held the chair of "Metaphysics and its History" at the University of Amsterdam.
After studying philosophy and literature in Innsbruck, Constance and Berlin, she received her doctorate from the Free University of Berlin in 1998. From 1993-2001 she was a research assistant at the Institute of Philosophy at the Free University of Berlin and from 2001-2009 a lecturer at the Institute of Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam.
Her current research focus is on aesthetics and art theory, cultural studies, political philosophy as well as critical theories and theories of resistance.
She is currently working on a monograph with the working title Vom Leben der Kritik (On the Life of Critique) and is also researching the coloniality of European aesthetics and art philosophy.
