Windows Update update

Windows Update update

Changed Update Server

Central IT has made a change to the Windows update service to improve the overall security and reliability of the updates. A few settings may need to be changed on some Windows computers.

If an error message with the number (0x80244017) appears during a manual Windows update, an action is required here:

Please download the file import-wsusc-https.cmd by clicking on it, open Windows Explorer and locate the file, it can usually be found in the Downloads directory. Start this file import-wsusc-https.cmd as administrator, i.e. click on it with the right mouse button and select the corresponding menu item.

A black window appears showing what is currently being done (stopping the update service, importing the changed WSUS settings and restarting the update service). After a short time it should say "Press any key ...", this window can then be closed.

When the update is restarted, it should run through again without an error message. If not, it may be necessary to restart the computer.

If errors occur or you have other problems with one of the steps, please contact us at "it@icbm.de" (preferably with the room number)

How do I start a manual Windows update?

Open the computer settings, there is an item "Updates and security", on this page click on "Check for updates". After a more or less short time you should get the information "You're up to date" or new updates have been found - at the end of the list you may have to start them manually.

It makes sense to start this function manually every few weeks as Windows updates can stall for various reasons.
