Advice and information
Dr. Ferdinand Esser advises doctoral candidates and those interested in a doctorate on topics before, during or after their doctoral project. The advice (e.g. career advice) is characterized by a voluntary, target group-specific and result-open relationship. Early career scientists are supported in shaping their educational and professional biographies independently. The focus is on the clients with their wishes, needs, abilities and talents. The content of the counselling is confidential and anonymous.
In this counselling context, career is defined as development of a professional activity that is in line with personal interests, values and skills. This means that this form of counselling involves more than just passing on information and advice on job market opportunities or the correct layout of application documents. In a protected environment, in which uncertainty, ambiguity and indecision are also allowed space, academics can explore implementation options. Through discussion and step-by-step clarification, perspectives for action can be developed.
Please make an appointment for a consultation by e-mail.
Career counselling should not be confused with vocational counselling. It is not about giving clients advice on which professions are suitable for them, but rather about developing a self-image on the basis of which clients can become active themselves and identify attractive professional fields for themselves.
