MSc project requirements

Required knowledge for MSc projects and MSc thesis work

This information is mostly for students who study Neuroscience and/or who have not taken my courses. In order to discuss a project, you need to understand some terms and concepts that are clear to most engineering and physics students but not necessarily to others. If the list below is mostly familiar to you, I look forward to discussing research topics with you.

  1. Basic programming (MatLab or Python)

  2. Knowledge about terms describing waves (e.g. translating power and amplitude ratios to dB and back and a basic idea about coherence and interference)

  3. Basic knowledge about signal processing (this corresponds approximately up to Sec. 4.2 of https://www-elec.inaoep.mx/~jmram/Digital_Signal_Processing__LI_TAN.pdf):

    1. Nyquist theorem

    2. Fourier transform

    3. Impulse response / Transfer function

    4. Linear time-invariant systems

    5. Relationship between time and frequency domain

    6. Filtering
