Research profile of the Professorship of Educational Management

Educational management primarily involves control and management issues in the areas of schools, universities and in-company education and further education.

The research profile of the Professorship of Educational Management covers topics and issues that relate in particular to the dimensions of the educational system and educational organisation. This includes both macro-structuralperspectives (education economics and the design of the education system via political-legislative control and order), as well as meso- and micro-structuralperspectives (education system at the level of individual organisations as well as interpersonal events/personnel management and intra-organisational interaction).

To work on this research complex, the Professorship of Educational Management draws on interdisciplinary sources of knowledge and insights. These lie in particular in the field of education and social sciences as the leading domain for the proper understanding of the programmatic requirements of the education system. Economic, i.e. economic and business management approaches are also utilised. For the most part, approaches from the social sciences and economics are also very closely interlinked today through the cross-sectional field of science and higher education research. Many aspects of research in educational management also draw on substantiated findings from broader organisational and management research.

The orientation of the Professorship of Educational Management is empirically based - this applies to both qualitative and quantitative methods, which are applied in the professorship's projects and critically reflected upon and categorised against the background of professional standards. In addition to multivariate evaluation methods, structured interviews and individual analyses (participant observation and ethnography) are used in organisations.

In recent years, the focus has developed in particular in the structural-institutional analysis of the education system and related areas, which can be illustrated by the following research activities:

In individual studies, research at the Professorship of Educational Management is repeatedly integrated into interdisciplinary alliances with other universities. Recently and currently, these concern, for example, issues in the field of medical care, diversity and sustainability (social responsibility) as well as questions of inter-organisational comparison of the education system (e.g. with administrations, banks, companies, churches). Work is also carried out on individual aspects of education in a system or organisational structure that is otherwise not typical of education.
