Aeroelasticity of Offshore Wind Turbines

Aeroelasticity of Offshore Wind Turbines

The rotor blades of offshore turbines become consistently longer, slimmer and more flexible. Combined with the large-scale laminar-turbulent inflow conditions the structure oscillations of the blades could become critical. Higher maintenance, an increased wear or even damages can arise, when resonances become amplified. Nonlinear resonances as a consequence of fluid-structure interactions are challenging to model and simulate. We therefore plan the development of laboratory turbines with rotor blades mimicking the dominating oscillations.
