Advance ticket sales for the spring semester start on 16 February

Oldenburg. The 2012 Children’s University year is about to begin. During the six exciting excursions into the world of science in the spring and autumn semesters, the Audimax – the largest lecture theatre at the University of Oldenburg – will once again be reserved exclusively for eight- to twelve-year-olds from the region. “Can we live on the Moon? Exploring the celestial body” – this is the title of the first lecture on Wednesday 7 March, in which physicist Prof. Dr Andreas Engel will take the children on a journey to explore Earth’s constant companion.
On Wednesday 14 March, Professor of Philosophy Dr Myriam Gerhard, together with the Children’s University students, aims to explore the answer to the big question: “What is freedom?” And on Wednesday 21 March, the theologian Prof. Dr Andrea Strübind will take the audience on an exciting journey through the history of the Church on the topic of “Christians campaigning for human rights”.
The lectures all begin at 4.30 pm. Doors to the Lecture Theatre Centre (A14) on the Haarentor campus open at 4.00 pm.
Tickets (€2) for the spring lectures will be available from Thursday 16 February by telephone via Nordwest Ticket GmbH on 0421 363636 and 01805 361136 (14 ct/min) and at the offices of the Nordwest-Zeitung.
Under the umbrella of the KinderUniversität, there are numerous other opportunities to discover the world of science: for example, in the university’s chemistry laboratory (CHEMOL), at the Centre for Child Research, in the physiXS teaching and learning laboratory, or online via ‘Physics for Kids’ and the Lernwerkstatt. The Oldenburg Natural Sciences Centre (NAWI-Haus) also offers courses in physics, chemistry, biology and technology. Similarly, the ‘Grüne Schule’ activity days at the Botanical Garden invite children to get involved. Children can experience art up close and get creative themselves in the workshops at the Kunsthalle Emden and the Horst Janssen Museum. The family concerts at the Oldenburg State Theatre introduce them to the world of music.
