Cooperation project with the City of Oldenburg
Project description:
In view of an ageing population, it is essential to systematically assess the age-friendliness of cities and communities to ensure that they meet the needs of older people and promote good ageing. The aim of this study was the first German translation and validation of the Age-Friendly Cities and Communities Questionnaire (AFCCQ) and an assessment of the age-friendliness of the city of Oldenburg by older citizens.
The questionnaire is based on World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines for designing age-friendly cities and was originally developed by scientists at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. It is now used in over 15 countries to assess the age-friendliness of cities and municipalities.
The ‘Oldenburg Age-Friendly Questionnaire’ project was carried out as part of a representative survey of the older population and made it possible to assess how older citizens perceive their city and in which areas there is a need for action.
Beyond the current project, it is planned to repeat the survey regularly and to incorporate the results into urban strategies and concepts for demographic change. The project thus represents an initial initiative with long-term goals - with the aim of making Oldenburg more age-friendly and comparing it with other German and international cities.
The project has been finalised and we would like to provide the following documents:
