FAQ
FAQ
When should I complete the internship?
The timing of the internship can be chosen individually. You can therefore complete the internship before the 6th semester (according to the study plan).
Are there any deadlines I need to be aware of?
According to the examination regulations, there are no deadlines. However, you should bear in mind that the 15 CP will only be recognised once you have submitted all the required components (report, accompanying course and proof of internship). It can take up to six weeks for the Examinations Office to check the documents and enter the CP.
You should also take into account any deadlines for your Master's application. Please enquire directly with the respective universities, as the deadlines vary.
You should therefore submit all documents at least 6 weeks before your de-registration. If this is not possible, please contact the coordinator for the training module in good time.
Do I have to register the internship?
You do not need to register the internship with the university. You are responsible for finding an internship position and making the necessary organisational and contractual arrangements with the company. If you have any questions regarding employment law, please contact, for example, "Students at Work" at the Office for University and Trade Union Co-operation at the University of Oldenburg.
It is important that you have the internship certified by the company. Please use the appropriate certificate for this purpose.
However, registration is mandatory for the accompanying course for the internship. Please register in good time, as places per seminar are limited.
Where can I do my internship?
You can complete your internship in any field of activity that is related to your studies in terms of content and level of requirements. According to the implementing provisions of the examination regulations, companies, non-profit or public institutions (including universities), associations or organisations are suitable for this purpose. For example, you can do an internship in a nursery school, provided that you mainly perform business management tasks there and do not spend most of your time doing educational work. This means that the focus of the internship must be on tasks related to the professional field and there must be a connection to the degree programme (e.g. at least one module of the degree programme must be relevant in terms of content) or a connection to the professional goals related to the degree programme (e.g. international management, quality management, i.e. fields of activity for which there are not yet separate modules in the bachelor's programme).
If in doubt, please contact the internship coordinator for advice on the suitability of your internship position before starting the internship.
Does the company have to meet certain requirements?
Does the internship have to fulfil certain criteria?
There are no specific requirements for companies. You can complete your internship at a small or medium-sized enterprise as well as at a large corporation. These can be businesses, non-profit or public institutions (including universities), associations or other organisations. The industry is not relevant.
There is also no specific content that you must learn during an internship. The only important thing is that it is related to your studies [see question "Where can I do my internship?"].
If in doubt, please contact the internship coordinator for advice on the suitability of your internship position before starting the internship.
How early do I need to start looking for an internship?
There is no basic rule for this. Experience has shown that you should apply 3 to 6 months before the start of your planned internship. In individual cases, positions are also advertised 1 year in advance. In some cases, there are also short-term job advertisements.
The same time frames apply to unsolicited applications, although the motto "the early bird catches the worm" applies, especially at sought-after companies. These may be filled 1 year or more in advance. Information on the time frames for awarding positions can usually be found on the websites of the respective companies.
Can I also do my internship abroad?
Yes, an internship abroad is a great opportunity to gain practical experience and experience living abroad at the same time.

Internship and bachelor's thesis – is that possible?
From the perspective of the internship provider, the internship and the bachelor's thesis can be combined. However, it is important that you clarify in advance with the supervising chair whether the respective chair agrees. Furthermore, you should clarify whether there are any special deadlines for the bachelor's thesis that could conflict with the duration/deadline of the internship. Each chair has its own regulations in this regard.
Can I split the internship up, do it at different companies or complete it on a part-time basis?
Yes, you can split the internship between different companies and complete it on a part-time basis. The important thing is that you end up with a total of 8 weeks (or 320 working hours) of internship.
Can I do my internship part-time?
Yes, the only important thing is that you complete a total of 320 hours. In this case, the number of weeks of the internship would be extended.

The activity must be clearly related to the subject of study and be appropriate to the level of the study objective. You can clarify this option in a personal meeting with the internship coordinator. In such cases, only the practical experience would be taken into account. The internship report and accompanying courses are not waived.
Voluntary services (FSJ & Co.) cannot usually be credited. However, in these cases, please feel free to contact the internship coordinator to have your achievements reviewed.

Will I receive the minimum wage during the internship?
Excerpt from the brochure "The Minimum Wage – Questions & Answers" published by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs
Are interns also entitled to the minimum wage?
Yes, the principle applies that interns are entitled to the minimum wage. Exempt from the minimum wage are so-called compulsory internships, i.e. in particular those internships that are compulsory under school regulations, training regulations or university regulations. In the case of voluntary internships lasting no longer than three months, there is no entitlement to the minimum wage if they serve the purpose of career orientation (orientation internships) or are completed alongside training or studies. An orientation internship or an internship accompanying training or studies that lasts longer than three months must be remunerated with the minimum wage from the first day. In addition, the minimum wage does not apply to internships as part of an entry-level qualification under SGB III and vocational training preparation measures under the Vocational Training Act.
If voluntary internships last longer than three months, is the minimum wage payable from the first day or from the fourth month? No minimum wage
applies to voluntary internships (orientation internships and internships accompanying training or studies) lasting up to three months. If such an internship lasts longer than three months, it is subject to the minimum wage in full and must be remunerated at the minimum wage rate from the first day. This applies both if the internship lasts longer than three months from the outset and if an internship limited to three months is extended beyond three months.
