Ulrich Ruschig was born on 10 July 1948 in Frankfurt/Main. From the winter semester 1966/67, he studied chemistry and philosophy at the universities of Frankfurt and Heidelberg, graduating with a Diplom degree in chemistry. In 1974, he was awarded a doctorate in biochemistry by the University of Heidelberg. He then worked as a research assistant for biological chemistry at the University of Heidelberg and for organic chemistry at the University of Oldenburg. From 1979, he taught as an Academic Councillor for "General Chemistry with special consideration of professional practice and the history of chemistry" at the University of Oldenburg. In 1995, he habilitated in the field of "Philosophy" at the University of Hanover with his habilitation thesis "Der Eintrag der Chemie zum Werden des Wesens". Since 1996, he has been researching and teaching as a university lecturer at the Institute of Philosophy at the University of Oldenburg. At this Institute, he was responsible for the following subject areas as a university lecturer: Practical Philosophy, Systematic Foundations and History of the Natural Sciences, Political Philosophy from Kant to Marx and Classical German Philosophy. In 1999, the University of Hanover awarded him the title of "Associate Professor". He was Director of the Institute of Philosophy at the University of Oldenburg for many years and was elected for several terms of office as a representative of the professors in the Academic Senate. On 30 September 2013, he was retired under civil service law. He has long been a liaison lecturer for the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation.
