Prof. Dr. Volker Hohmann
Research Interests
During my studies in physics, I developed a strong interest in the complexities of human hearing and acoustic communication, which led me to pursue this subject as part of my doctoral research. I concentrated on creating novel loudness compensation schemes for hearing aids, earning my doctorate in 1993 at the Universität Göttingen as a first-generation academic. Since then, I have devoted my career to hearing research, particularly focusing on innovative hearing aid technologies. Currently, my work emphasizes the integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning to develop advanced sound processing methods for hearing aids. Additionally, I am exploring the use of interactive audiovisual virtual reality to create more realistic hearing and communication tests, both for individuals with and without hearing aids. My ultimate goal is to enhance the quality of life for those with hearing impairments while continuing to push the boundaries of hearing research.
