Zukunft gestalten (Shaping the future)

The project “Zukunft gestalten” (“Shaping the future”) aims to raise awareness for the complex process of the emergence and impact of drafts of the future in a dialogue between academics and the public.

The question is which drafts will prevail for what reasons and how, by whom and, why certain issues are presented as urgent while others are not addressed, and how options for intervention are legitimized and delegitimized in this way.

The researchers use the potentials of cultural studies analysis to reflect on those social conceptions that are expressed in future-oriented diagnoses of the present and debates on possible social developments.

As part of the project, “Zukunftswerkstätten” (“Future workshops”) were held on 6 and 7 September 2018 on the topics of “sustainability”, “migration”, and “digitalisation”.

From 4 to 7 June 2019, the Research Centre “Genealogy of the Present” in cooperation with the Edith Russ House for Media Art, the Oldenburg State Theatre and the Polyester Club invited to the event series “ZukunftsGestalten. Eine Juniwoche in Oldenburg” (“Shaping the future. A Week in June in Oldenburg”).
