Climate-change effects on epiphyte vegetation in tropical montane forests

PhD project focussed on climate-change effects on the ecological roles of vascular and non-vascular epiphytes in a montane cloud forest. The study addresses the following questions:

  • How much epiphytic biomass is currently present in the studied montane cloud forest in western Panama?
  • How do these epiphytes alter rainfall interception in this forest?
  • How do these epiphyte communities respond to climatic warming?
  • How do non-vascular and vascular epiphytes interact? In particular, how do epiphytic bryophytes affect germination and establishment of vascular epiphytes?
