Cross-border health research meet-up 2022

Strengthening cross-border cooperation in the Northern Dutch-German border region

On 25 November 2022 the Cross-border Health Research Meet-up took place at the Zollhaus in Leer. The event was organized by the Cross-border Institute of Healthcare Systems and Prevention (CBI), which is a joint initiative of the Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health in Groningen and the School of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Oldenburg and the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG).

Researchers, healthcare professionals and public health officers from the Northern Dutch-German borden region came together to share and explore options to cooperate in future cross-border healthcare projects within our region. Also, the current cross-border health research projects that are being conducted within the CBI were presented in oral and poster presentations.

Opening of the day by the dean of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Oldenburg, prof. Hans Gerd Nothwang.

The programme started with the first key note speaker: Susanne Sivonen. Researcher, Faculty of Law & Institute for Transnational and Euregional cross border cooperation and Mobility (ITEM), Maastricht University. Focusing on the reimbursement of cross-border healthcare costs in the EU: challenges for border regions.

Afterwards, the projects from the CHARE GD-I were presented.

The morning ended with some time for matchmaking and networking. A well deserved lunch was prepared. 

The last key note speaker was Julia Winkler, Healthacross Initiative, Lower Austrian state health agency. With the key note focusing on the impact of the Healthacross initiative on the development of cross-border health cooperation alongside the Austrian – Czech – Slovakian border.

The day ended with a panel discussion on cross-border health in the present and future.
