We welcome you to the 12th edition in the series of Brazilian-German Workshops on Applied Surface Science, this time in the Allgäu, a wonderful Bavarian Alpine region. The conference site is situated at the Mice Alpenhotel Oberstdorf. Hope to see you soon!

General information

Hotel reservations
There are rooms reserved at the hotel and we kindly ask you to do the booking directly at the hotel. Please use the keyword "12th bgw" for the booking.
Hotel rooms are 155 Euro for single rooms and 100 Euro per person for double rooms. These rates are net rates (please add VAT) and include breakfast. Please book before May, 30th 2025. After this date we cannot guarantee that you can still book a room as the area around Oberstdorf is very touristic.

Early career stipends
There will be a limited number of stipends for postdocs and other early career researchers available, covering travel costs, hotel costs and conference fees. Information on how to apply can be found here.

Visa information
Brazilian visitors are exempted from obtaining a visa, see here for details. Other nationals please check the Federal Foreign Office webpage for further information.

The nearest international airports are Munich or Zurich. Trains to Oberstdorf depart directly from these airports and take about 3.5 hours, please check the Deutsche Bahn website for connections. 

If you choose to arrive by train, the nearest train station is "Oberstdorf". There is a bus shuttle to the hotel between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. Please book the shuttle 2 days ahead directly at the hotel. Taxis are also available directly opposite the train station.

Workshop program

The conference will start Monday noon and end Friday noon. There will be a poster session for early career researchers including PhDs. Talks are mainly invited presentations, however, there is a limited number of slots for contributed talks available. If you wish to present your research, please contact the conference office

Registration

The conference fee is 600 Euros. It covers all meals (lunchs all days, dinner on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday), excluding the excursion with conference dinner on Wednesday. 

The excursion to the Breitachklamm will take place on Wednesday afternoon. The walk through the Breitachklamm, a spectacular gorge, will end at the Alpe Dornach, where the workshop dinner is planned. Total cost is 70 Euro, including bus transfer, entrance fee and dinner.

There are four registration categories

  • Regular participant with excursion (total cost 670 Euro)
  • Regular participant without excursion (total cost 600 Euro)
  • Accompanying person (including lunch, dinner and excursion, total cost 300 Euro)
  • Travel grant applicant (postdocs and early career researchers only)

If you intend to participate in the excursion, choose the first category. If unsure, select option 2. Registration for the excursion at a later stage will be possible, you will then be sent a seperate invoice for the excursion/workshop dinner.

During the registration process, you can indicate if you give a talk or if you plan to present a poster. Also, please upload the abstract of your talk or poster. After the successful completion of the registration, there is an upload option for your file.

Special dietary requirements can be provided during registration. If unsure, feel free to contact the organisers.

All regular attendees will receive an invoice with payment instructions (either credit card or bank transfer, depending on your choice). Please note that PhD students are not eligible for a travel stipend.

Registration is now open, deadline is 15.06.2025. Payment is due until 30.06.2025. 

 

Online registration 

Early career stipends

There will be a limited number of travel grant stipends for early career researchers, usually postdocs, to allow their participation. A stipend will cover registration fee and hotel costs. In addition and depending on your home country, costs for a long-distance flight (Brazil, max. 1000 €) or the costs for train tickets (Germany, max. 400 €) are also reimbursed.

In order to apply, applicants should provide a CV, a list of publications, a letter of support from their supervisor (if applicable) in addition to a short letter of motivation plus a title and abstract for an intended poster or talk. It is mandatory to present a poster at the workshop. However, excellent contributions can be „upgraded” to a talk by the organisers.

Applications should be send to the conference office via Email as a single PDF attachment, no later than April, 30th, 2025. Additionally, applicants should register in the category „Travel grant applicant" which is free of costs.

Information for Authors

Abstract submission:
Please submit the abstract of your talk or your poster on a single page as a PDF document directly during the registration process (there is an option for ile selection following the submission of your registration). A Word template is provided for your convenience.

Poster guidelines:
Poster format: Portrait A0 (height x width = 1189 mm x 841 mm)
Language: English

Each poster will be presented in an oral minute presentation prior to the poster session. Please prepare one slide and file it to our conference office before the beginning of the conference. The order of the minute presentations will be the order of the poster numbers.

Materials to mount the posters will be available at the conference office.

Lectures:
Oral presentations are in English. Please bring your presentation on a USB stick or bring your computer to the lecture hall in the break before your presentation.
