The scholarship is advertised once a year from 15 February to 31 March.

The online application form is only activated and an application is only possible during the application period from 15 February to 31 March.

Applications are open to regularly enrolled students, doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers at the University of Oldenburg who fulfil the following criteria:

1. You are a student* or early career researcher* at Faculty II: Computing Science and Economics, School V - School of Mathematics and Science or School VI - School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
2. The programme involves a study, teaching or research stay abroad of at least 3 months.
3. The intended stay abroad begins in the second half of the year of the call for applications.

The scholarship is only awarded once per person!

The Biava mobility scholarship is advertised once a year from 15 February to 31 March via various channels. After submitting the online application form, applicants receive an automatic confirmation of receipt with the instruction to upload all required application documents to the university cloud. After the formal review of the submitted documents, applicants will be informed about the status of their application by the end of April.

Only applications that are submitted on time, in full and in accordance with the formal requirements by 31 March 2026 will be considered for the selection procedure.

The scholarship is awarded by the board of the Floyd and Lili Biava Foundation. The selection committee will meet in June this year. Applicants will be informed in advance when they can expect a decision.

The selection committee awards points and ranks the applicants based on set criteria. This includes performance-based funding, meaning that the applicant's academic performance (average grade according to their current grade transcript) is one of the selection criteria. In addition to credits, however, the selection committee is particularly interested in the student's motivation. Applicants should therefore address the following aspects in their letter of motivation:

• Reasons for applying for the Biava mobility grant
• Professional and personal motivation for a stay abroad, including reasons for choosing the host country and host institution
• Relevance of the stay abroad for studies and/or academic appointments
• Study, teaching or research plan

The selection committee also highly values voluntary commitment and takes into account special life circumstances. The mobility scholarship is primarily intended to support students and early career researchers who have not (yet) received any scholarship benefits.

Applicants will be informed of the Foundation Board's decision promptly after the selection meeting. The diversity of the selection criteria, their weighting among each other and the guarantee of absolute confidentiality of the decision-making process in the selection committee mean that the decisions are not explained in detail to the applicants.

After submitting their written declaration of acceptance, successful applicants will receive an invitation to the official presentation of the scholarship certificate by the President of the University of Oldenburg, Prof Dr Ralph Bruder.

By accepting the mobility grant, scholarship holders undertake to submit a meaningful experience report (including reference to the scholarship!) to the board of the Floyd and Lili Biava Foundation after their return from abroad and to be available for a brief discussion at the next board meeting.
