The20th edition of the International Symposium on Scientific Computing, Computer Arithmetic, and Verified Numerical Computations (SCAN) was organised by Andreas Rauh and Marit Lahme (both affiliated with the Department of Computer Science at the University of Oldenburg) and Ekaterina Auer (University of Applied Sciences Wismar) from 22 to 26 September 2025.
Around 50 international participants from the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Poland, Switzerland and the United States visited Oldenburg to discuss the latest developments in the fields of reliable computing, software engineering and uncertainty quantification, with applications in such wide and varied areas as robotics, control, structural and civil engineering, and signal processing.
In addition to traditional presentations, SCAN 2025 also focused on promoting the research of early-career researchers (Master’s and PhD students) through interactive poster sessions. Peer-reviewed papers based on the contributions presented at SCAN are scheduled for publication in the *International Journal of Approximate Reasoning* as well as in *Acta Cybernetica*. The scientific committee of SCAN decided at its meeting that the next conference (SCAN 2027) will be held in Kitakyushu, Japan; SCAN 2029 is planned to take place in Kraków, Poland.

In addition to traditional talks, SCAN 2025 placed particular emphasis on promoting research by young academics (Master’s and PhD students) through interactive poster presentations. Peer-reviewed papers based on the talks presented at SCAN are to be published in the International Journal of Approximate Reasoning and in Acta Cybernetica. At its meeting, the SCAN Scientific Committee decided to award the next conference (SCAN 2027) to Kitakyushu, Japan. Furthermore, SCAN 2029 is to take place in Kraków, Poland.
