Application deadline
International applicants:
Applications via uni-assist open on 15 March and close on 30 April for non-EU students and on 15 July for EU students. (To ensure a smooth admission process, we strongly recommend submitting your documents by 15 June.)
Applicants with a German Bachelor's degree:
The application period via the university opens on 1 June and closes on 15 July.
Applications are only valid for the current application period with a start in October of the same year. Unfortunately, due to capacity reasons, it is not possible to defer any applications to the next intake (e.g. if you experience visa problems). You are kindly invited to apply again via uni-assist during the next application period.
Admission to the first semester is only possible for the winter term. You can only apply for the summer term intake if you have studied (at least a part of) a fitting Master's programme from which we can recognize credits.
Admission
I submitted my application on time but suspect reasons for a delayed processing. What should I do?
Please get in touch with uni-assist if you suspect reasons for a delayed processing on their side. For fairness reasons, we are not able to accept applications or accept further documents after the official submission deadline.
I submitted my application in time and haven‘t heard anything ever since. I would like to inquire the status of my application. What should I do?
All applications received on time will be processed and considered. Admissions will be sent out end of May/beginning of June for international applications.
We are not allowed to send out rejections (due to capacity) before October.
There might be late admission, however, if you applied as an international applicant and haven‘t heard from us until end of June, consider it as unlikely to receive an admission after that point.
Is there an application ranking?
Yes.
- The admissions committee will evaluate the applicant based on the documents presented and students will be admitted based on a ranking order.
- The degree of eligibility depends upon the sum of the points from categories A and B (see below).
- The maximum number of points is 6.
Category A:
- Grade average of qualified Bachelor's degree
1.00 to 1.5 4 points
1.51 to 1.75 3.5 points
1.76 to 2.0 3 points
2.01 to 2.25 2.5 points
2.26 to 2.5 2 points
2.51 to 2.75 1.5 points
2.76 to 3.0 1 point - For the conversion of marks from abroad, see: https://uol.de/en/students/recognition/conversion-foreign-grades/
Category B:
- Further points can be obtained through a relevant professional or scientific activity in the field of data science or machine learning (work experience, internships, project work, bachelor's thesis; at least 3 months full-time work) - 1 point per activity, max. 2 points in total.
- These qualifications are evaluated by the admissions committee.
