Application deadline
International applicants:
Applications via uni-assist open on 15 March and close on 30 April for non-EU students and on 15 July for EU students. (To ensure a smooth admission process, we strongly recommend submitting your documents by 15 June.)
Applicants with a German Bachelor's degree:
The application period via the university opens on 1 June and closes on 15 July.
Applications are only valid for the current application period with a start in October of the same year. Unfortunately, due to capacity reasons, it is not possible to defer any applications to the next intake (e.g. if you experience visa problems). You are kindly invited to apply again via uni-assist during the next application period.
Admission to the first semester is only possible for the winter term. You can only apply for the summer term intake if you have studied (at least a part of) a fitting Master's programme from which we can recognize credits.
After acceptance
I have been admitted but I cannot arrive in Germany by the deadline stated in the letter of acceptance.
- Attendance at face-to-face classes is recommended from the first day of the course.
- Lectures are not offered online or in a hybrid format.
- If you have been admitted but you cannot arrive in Germany by the deadline stated in your letter of acceptance or before the lectures start (see https://uol.de/en/students/academic-calendar).
Please email the Admissions Office (admission.master@uol.de) to request an extension letter (Note: The deadline will only be extended until the start of the lectures). - Due to capacity reasons, it is no longer possible to defer any applications to the next intake. Therefore, you are kindly invited to apply again via uni-assist during the next application period.
My visa is delayed. What do I do?
- The admissions office issues admission letters stating the latest day of arrival and registration at the university.
- For international students who have issues receiving their visa on time, it is possible to get an extension from the admissions office.
- It is NOT possible to start your studies any later than the day mentioned in this extension letter.
When do courses begin and end?
Unlike institutes in many other countries, German universities run on a winter/summer schedule. The winter semester begins officially on 1st October; the summer semester on 1st April. Students can only be admitted to our programme for the winter semester.
Classes start mid-October.

I have been admitted but would like to start the programme in spring. Is this possible?
No, our programme starts once a year only in the winter term.
- You can only apply for the summer term intake if you have studied (at least a part of) a fitting Master's programme from which we can recognize credits.
- In this case, you need to include the documents from your Master's studies in your application.
- You can find the deadlines for a summer term application in our formal admission regulations.
My admission letter lists additional classes for my studies. What does that mean?
If your admission letter lists additional classes that you have to study in Oldenburg, it means that your admission is conditional and it is NOT a full admission!
- Once you are in Oldenburg, you will have to study all listed classes and pass them in addition to the standard curriculum of the Master's programme.
- Please note, that the additional classes have to be studied in your first term immediately after arrival or even online before the term starts.
- They will not be offered in the summer term. If you do not pass the classes before the start of your second year, you will not be allowed to continue your studies.
- We recommend that you contact the study coordinator before the lecture period starts to clarify all questions regarding your conditional admission.
I have been admitted to the programme. When do I need to provide the final Bachelor’s certificate?
The final Bachelor's certificate is needed by 1st April the year after enrolment.
I have completed professional training and/or have skills and competences from work, further education and training. How can I accredit them?
Modules from prior studies or competencies from work experience can be accredited towards the Master's degree if they are comparable to the competencies you will gain in our modules.

- Please contact the Student Service Center for help with the formal recognition process. T
- he PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition) project makes the accreditation of work experience transparent for students and the university.
Who can help me as an international student with organisational issues?

- The IO runs a welcome week for international students at the beginning of the academic year. In addition to numerous social events, they also provide information about:
- Enrolment at the university and registering as a citizen in Oldenburg
- Study facilities, an introduction to the library and online Stud.IP systems
- Cultural aspects of living in Germany
- Support services and societies
- You can also sign up for a newsletter and the facebook group from the IO.
- Another source of help when you arrive is the “buddy” program- German students who are already settled in Oldenburg volunteer their time to help new international students.
- This help includes, but is not limited to: signing into accommodation, showing you around the city and finding the nearest facilities (e.g. supermarkets)

I need a scholarship: Where can I find information?
Unfortunately, we cannot directly offer scholarships for our programme.
However, there are plenty of scholarship possibilities from foundations, the university, the DAAD etc.
