Erasmus+ application process
On this page you will find further information about the application process for your semester abroad at one of our European partner universities. If you are interested in a semester abroad outside Europe, please visit this page.
Step 1: Find a suitable partner university
For an overview of our partner universities and exchange opportunities, visit our mobility portal. Please note: within Europe, our cooperations are subject-specific, so please use the filter options to display suitable cooperations.
Hint: Use filters!
The cooperations within Europe are subject-specific, so please use filters to select your degree programme/subjects and your level of study. You can also filter places in the Erasmus+ program, but please note that our exchange places in Switzerland will only be displayed if you also select the Swiss European Mobility Programme.
Still have questions about the mobility portal? See our guide!
Hint: Read testimonials
Are you unsure which partner university is right for you or are you wondering how studying there works?
Hint: Note semester times
Abroad, the winter semester (1st term) often begins in August/September and the summer semester (2nd term) in January/February, depending on the country and partner university. This information can be found in the mobility portal or on the websites of the partner universities.
Step 2: Obtain subject-specific application information
Step 3: Compile application and submit to subject coordinator
Your Erasmus+ subject coordinator will tell you which documents you need to submit with your application, generally the following are required as a minimum:
Depending on the subject, you may also have to provide the following:
Important information about applying online
* Please fill in the online application carefully since the information will be transferred to us as you entered it. Please email the resulting PDF form to your departmental coordinator. The departmental coordinator will then forward it to us.
Note: Display or printing problems may sometimes occur in Firefox with the PDF, causing the fields to remain empty. If this happens, use other software, such as Acrobat Reader.
Note on the selection and award procedure
The selection and award procedure for Erasmus+ must be fair, transparent, coherent and properly documented. The eligibility criteria must be made known to all potential participants. Criteria can include academic performance, language skills or motivation. Some Erasmus+ subject coordinators allocate places based on the sequence in which eligible applications are received. The Erasmus+ subject coordinators are required to inform the students of the respective selection procedure so that no one is disadvantaged.
Step 4: So you got a place – what happens next?
Erasmus students are selected by the Erasmus+ subject coordinator. After selecting an applicant, the Erasmus+ subject coordinator will provisionally confirm their Erasmus place.
The Erasmus+ subject coordinator will sign the printout of the online application or forward it to the International Office. The IO accepts the printout of the online application signed by the Erasmus+ subject coordinator as an application for the Erasmus mobility grant. A separate application for the Erasmus+ scholarship is not necessary. However, top-ups must be applied for. You will receive further information on this from your Institutional Erasmus+ coordinator in the International Office. Learn more.
You will then be nominated to the partner university by the IO or the Erasmus+ subject coordinator so that your application can be submitted to the partner university.
