Email etiquette
Dear fellow students,
You expect respect and good service from us. We expect commitment and respect from you. This includes that we all keep to form. In the department, we only answer emails that meet certain standards of correspondence. This includes a salutation and a closing formula. "Hello" or "Good afternoon" are out of the question as a form of address. The perfect form is "Dear", but "Dear" is also polite and appreciated. Follow this with "Herr" or "Frau" - not your first name and surname. We are not title hunters and do not insist on being addressed by our title. However, if you do wish to do so, please never address a professor as "Frau Prof. Dr." - the correct form of address is "Frau Professor" or "Frau Professorin", followed by the surname if you wish. The same applies to Mr Professor.
With this in mind: here's to polite co-operation!
Best regards
Your Department of Ancient History
