Educational game app "VocabiCar" by Quantumfrog in collaboration with the Westermann Group was honoured as "Best Serious Game" in Munich!

Gaming and vocabulary learning - the expert jury found that both can work very well at the same time with VocabiCar, the English app for grades 3 to 6, and honoured the educational game as "Best Serious Game" with the German Computer Games Award 2018. VocabiCar received prize money of 40,000 euros as part of the award. A total of 13 prizes were awarded in 13 categories as well as an audience award. The DCP award promotes the development of innovative computer and video games and is awarded by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure and the Game e.V. association.

VocabiCar was developed by the Oldenburg-based app and games start-up Quantumfrog in collaboration with the Westermann Gruppe. In the educational game, children steer toy cars through lovingly designed themed worlds and - depending on the game mode - go on the hunt for letters, words or objects. Game mechanics and high scores keep them fully motivated while learning vocabulary.

This concept also convinced the jury: ""The game is characterised by the fact that a young target group of 8-12 years can learn in a playful and excellent way. The whole thing was developed together with a textbook publisher. It is a language experience, wonderfully playful and lovingly designed in a 3D environment. The game is even available as an app, which makes learning even easier in the classroom or during leisure time - serious learning by doing, so to speak".

Laudator Lars Klingbeil, Secretary General of the SPD and former DCP jury member, added: "Dear Minister President, I have to say, as a Lower Saxon, it feels good when you come here and see that the money is going back to Lower Saxony." We are particularly pleased about this and wholeheartedly congratulate the Oldenburg team led by Hendrik Rump and Andreas Schnepper. Hendrik Rump is also delighted: "We are delighted to have received this fantastic award and to be able to take Quantumfrog to the next level in the serious games sector and expand our partnership with the Westermann Group! The education and training sector in particular is predestined for serious games and playfully supported implementation."
