In classroom-based research, particular attention is paid to the early teaching of history in primary schools and to the transfer of academic findings into classroom practice. Empirical teaching and learning research also plays a central role. By surveying pupils’ conceptions of history and making constructive use of these to structure lessons, as well as by examining teachers’ conceptions of history teaching, historical learning can be improved at all school levels.
