My current research focuses primarily on gender history and the study of sanctity and sacralisation, as well as the evolving forms of sacred gender projects within the tension between the worldly demands and divine expectations that authors and audiences place upon their saints. The particular focus here is on the negotiations and repercussions of the church reform movements of the 10th and 11th centuries. More generally, I am interested in the realisation of ideas and social practices within the marginalised social or spatial peripheries of Christianised Europe – that is, how the thoughts and actions of the authors and/or their audiences are reflected in the portrayal of ‘the Other ’.
