Winter School
The Winter School: "WINT3RSURGE - interdisciplinary & interactive winter school for innovative Surgery, Orthopedics and Anatomy", which will take place this year on 05.01.2024 and 06.01.2024, is a winter school for innovative learning in the fields of anatomy, surgery and orthopaedics. For this purpose, a "circuit training" of the 3 departments will be set up (Anatomy, AVC, Orthopaedics). These are worked on by students in small groups in order to train and refresh surgical and anatomical knowledge and skills. In addition, lectures are given in the "cutting" subjects.
The first day ends with an event for socialising and networking.
At the end of the event, there will be an award ceremony for the best performances at the various stations.
Registration is open for up to 30 students from 3rd year onwards until 22/12/2013 until 12:00.

Robot-assisted surgical system for artificial knee joints

"According to statistical surveys, around a quarter of patients who have had an artificial knee joint are not satisfied with the results of their operation. Loosening, infections, restricted movement and pain are often cited as complaints that can significantly limit the quality of life of those affected.
A manually controlled surgical robot, which the University Clinic for Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery at Pius Hospital has put into operation under the new management of Prof. Dr Max Ettinger, counteracts this.
The new system enables surgeons to adapt the prostheses to the anatomy of each individual patient with millimetre precision. After the procedure, they are generally more satisfied and recover more quickly."

Prize for the best short presentation

"At the 69th Annual Congress of the Association of Southern German Orthopaedic Surgeons and Trauma Surgeons, movement scientist and doctoral student Annet Wijnen received the prize for the best short presentation. She gave her presentation on a study comparing rehabilitation after hip endoprostheses in Germany and the Netherlands. Congratulations!
The Pius Hospital, the Rehabilitation Clinic Bad Zwischenahn and the University Medical Centre Groningen (UMCG) are involved in the study, which will be published shortly. Annet Wijnen is the first joint doctoral student of the University Clinic for Orthopaedics and UMCG."

Linda Lecker (28) successfully defended her dissertation and passed the doctoral examination in October 2020. This makes her the first graduate of the model degree programme in human medicine to take this step at the University of Oldenburg.
