While IP II analyses the assembly in time, IP III does the same in space, by incorporating a dynamic landscape perspective.

IP III will seek for an empirical confirmation of predictions from current metacommunity models, namely a humped-shaped biodiversity distribution along a dispersal / connectivity gradient. The analysis may show the relevance of dispersal trading off with either lottery or dominance competition.
