Together with museums in the German Federal States of Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia, the Lötschental Museum in Kippel is participating in a three-year research project (2011-2013) on the topic of "New local museums as institutions of knowledge production". The project is being led by the Department of Material Culture at the University of Oldenburg. The research project focuses on investigating the specific types of knowledge production that characterise museums of local history. The concrete aim of the research is to determine the specific object volumes and associated forms of presentation that are used to convey statements about nature, region, homeland, gender and ethnicity.
