APN Network Oldenburg: Shaping the future of care together
The APN Network Oldenburg has set itself the task of connecting Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs), those interested in APNs and nursing scientists in the Oldenburg region.
We promote interdisciplinary exchange and create a platform on which the latest findings from science and practice are brought together.
Our aim is to advance the understanding and further development of Advanced Practice Nursing in Oldenburg and the Oldenburg region and to promote the transfer between science and practice.
What is Advanced Nursing Practice?
An Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is defined by the International Council of Nurses as follows:
An APN is a nursing professional with a master's degree "who has acquired specialised knowledge, complex decision-making skills and clinical competencies for advanced nursing practice." The exact characteristics of an APN are "shaped by the context and/or country (...) in which he/she is admitted to practice."

What are the activities of an Advanced Practice Nurse?
The activities of an Advanced Practice Nurse can vary greatly depending on the nursing setting and specialisation.
The interview with Julian Seidel, Advanced Practice Nurse at Pius Hospital Oldenburg and research assistant at the University of Oldenburg, provides a good insight into the possible areas of responsibility of an APN.
