Research

My research focus is on social, legal and political philosophy.

In my dissertation, which I completed in 2025, I analyse the legitimation conditions of liberal property regimes using the example of John Locke. My central thesis is that Locke's theory on the one hand conceptualises the emancipatory core of modern property, but on the other hand becomes entangled in numerous (avoidable) regressions. Systematically, I argue that legitimate property is always self-limiting. The determination of these "inner limits" is the core of normative property theory, to whose revitalisation my research aims to contribute.

Other research interests include critical legal theories, discourses on gift and commons, and the relationship between morality, law and economics. In terms of the history of philosophy, I have so far focussed on the history of ideas of property and freedom, in particular early modern natural law (Thomas, Grotius, Locke), the history of ideas of neoliberalism and post-Marxism. A habilitation project is in preparation.
