Taster sessions
Event types
The taster programme is part of the regular teaching programme. It is therefore perfectly normal if you are only able to follow the content to a limited extent.
The following types are available:
lecture
A course in the form of a lecture that provides an overview of a specific subject area. Lectures are often delivered to large groups of students (up to several hundred).
Seminar
In a seminar, a specific topic is explored in a small group under the guidance of a lecturer. The seminar is characterised by the students’ active participation in the content through discussions or, for example, presentations on specific issues (guests are, of course, under no obligation to do this!).
Tutorial
A teaching session, usually in a smaller group, designed to consolidate the material covered in a lecture or, in some subjects, to work through practice exercises.
tutorial
In a tutorial, students, together with a tutor – usually a student in a higher semester – revise and consolidate the material covered in a course (lecture, seminar or practical).

Taster sessions

During the term (April–July / October–January), you have the opportunity to get a taste of courses from the regular curriculum. Simply pop in and attend any courses you like – it’s straightforward and no registration is required.
On this page, you can search for your chosen degree programme and filter by days/times as well as by course type.
How does attending taster sessions work?
1. Select
Please select your event from the Taster programme.
Please bear in mind that changes may still be made at the start of the semester. We endeavour to update the list regularly. It is therefore worth checking back frequently, particularly at the start of the semester!
Tip: As there is some overlap in the content of certain degree programmes, it is advisable to look for suitable modules across several degree programmes, e.g.
- Economics – Business Administration with a focus on law – Sustainability Economics
- Art and Media – Material Culture: Textiles – Gender Studies
- Biology – Environmental Sciences
- Computing Science – Business Informatics
- Physics – Engineering Physics – Physics, Technology, Medicine
Attendance at courses in the subject of Human Medicine is possible by arrangement.

2. Visit
You can attend the selected course(s) up to twice – with no obligation and without having to register. Either on your own or accompanied by one or two other people who are interested.
Please note: For events held in smaller groups (e.g. seminars or tutorials), it is often helpful to speak to the lecturer shortly beforehand and explain that you are there to try out the session. It is also advisable to pick out one or two alternative courses, as courses can sometimes be cancelled at short notice.
Tip: Courses start 15 minutes after and end 15 minutes before the stated time.
For example: Monday 14.00 – 16.00 means that the course starts at 14.15 and ends at 15.45.
