BIOCAS
The "BIOCAS" project focuses on the cascade utilisation of biomass. Biological raw materials are to be converted into products using various processes. The resulting residues ("waste") are in turn used as educts for further processes. Specifically, this involves the conversion of fermentation residues from a municipal biowaste fermentation plant into biochar using HTC (hydrothermal carbonisation). This HTC coal is in turn used as a soil-improving agent (increasing the nutrient and water retention capacity). This use of charcoal in agricultural soils is intended to improve plant growth.
Financing: INTERREG North Sea Region
Duration: 07/2017 to 06/2021 (cooperation of the working group: 01/2017 to 09/2018)
