Digital and analogue games in history and teaching
Digital and analogue games with a historical setting are no longer just a fixed part of popular culture, but an essential part of our culture of history and remembrance. There is a very active academic debate about digital and analogue games with historical content. However, digital and analogue games still rarely find their way into university seminar rooms or school classrooms. This is a missed opportunity, especially because digital and analogue games are highly relevant to the real world, allow for new forms of mediation and promote skills and a critical examination of historical images.
Lucas Haasis, postdoc and lecturer in early modern history at the University of Oldenburg, and Patrick Heike, teacher at Artland Gymnasium Quakenbrück, are jointly offering practical workshops and seminars on the possible uses of digital and analogue games in university teaching and history lessons. Both are members of the Working Group on History and Digital Games.
