Study entry and information for first semester students

Welcome to the Institute of Chemistry at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg

We would like to give you some important information to help you get off to a good start at the Institute and a successful start to your chemistry studies!

Directions to Campus Wechloy

The main entrance to Campus Wechloy is at the end of Carl-von-Ossietzky-Straße.

by bicycle:

  • From the direction of Oldenburg city center: For example, ride out of town from Julius-Mosen-Platz onto Ofener Straße and follow it for approx. 3 kilometers until Carl-von-Ossietzky-Straße branches off to the right before an underpass. Turn onto this road and follow it to the end.
  • From the direction of Ofen/Bad Zwischenahn: Follow Ammerländer Heerstraße into town. After the underpass, turn left onto Carl-von-Ossietzky-Straße and follow it to the end.

By bus:

  • Line 306 in the direction of Universität runs from the ZOB directly to our front door. Simply get off at the "Uni/Campus Wechloy" stop ! After a few steps you will be at the main entrance and on the ring level.
  • Alternatively, you can also take lines 310 and 350. Please get off at the "Grotepool" stop , walk out of the city and turn right into Carl-von-Ossietzky-Straße before the underpass. After about 750 meters you will reach the Wechloy campus.

  • the student council introduces itself and you get to know the faces and members of the chemistry student council ( → subject presentation, joint canteen meal, social evening, ...).
  • you get to know the other students ( → joint canteen meal, canteen party, games afternoon, ...).
  • receive helpful tips for a successful start to your studies ( → "hangover breakfast" incl. Stud.IP and timetable workshop, research-based learning in chemistry studies: important tools).
  • you will get an introduction to practical work in the lab and internship ( → Safety instructions for the physics internship, Research-based learning in chemistry studies).

Online Mathematics Bridge Course (OMB+)

The Online Mathematics Bridge Course (OMB+) helps you to work through the school material in mathematics and prepares you for studying chemistry. The course is free of charge and accessible online: OMB+

You will receive a certificate for successfully completing the course, i.e. if you have achieved at least 80% of the maximum number of points in the final exams of all 11 chapters of the main section. You will need this certificate in the first semester: It is a course achievement as part of the module che115 "Theoretical and Mathematical Foundations of Chemistry".

Mentoring program

The mentoring program of the Institute of Chemistry is a study-accompanying (= voluntary) program in which the professors accompany, supervise and advise a group of students as personal mentors. More under: Mentoring program.

Organization of the course, contact persons at the beginning of the course

In addition to the services offered by the university to help you organize your own studies(Studium-organisieren), the Institute of Chemistry also wants to accompany and support you and foster a sense of community.
