Important notes

We will only accept digital copies of stay abroad documents uploaded to Stud.IP via the course 3.02.086  - please do not submit your materials via e-mail!

  1. Make sure your documents are complete when you upload them! Partial documentation (eg. a transcript without a Modulschein or return sheet) may lead to delays in getting credit - you should upload everything together!
  2. Please submit your documents in as few files as possible. It is very difficult to process 10 different documents!
  3. All documents should be uploaded in PDF format. Make sure any scans / inserted images are legible.

Getting Credit for your Stay Abroad

What do I need to do when I get back?

Returning from your stay abroad with an excellent reference from your employer in Canada or a transcript from your successful semester in Ireland, you may think it is enough to hand your documents in to the English and American Studies Department or the Prüfungsamt.

However, there a few more steps to follow in order to get full credit for your activities once you are back in Oldenburg. The final procedure for having your stay officially acknowledged is detailed below.

Recognition of your stay abroad in 'Corona times' (process exclusively online since April 2020)

To officially register your stay abroad with the Prüfungsamt in Oldenburg, you need the following documents. You can find them under forms for credit transfer in the sidebar, as well as under stay abroad documents elsewhere on this site.

  1. A Modulschein, either for the Master of Education or the Zwei-Fächer Bachelor depending on your current programme of study.
  2. Proof of the stay abroad – an official or unofficial digital copy is fine. This proof may be in the form of an academic transcript of records, or it may be a letter or reference if you completed an internship or worked full-time. If you completed another type of training or language course, then you need official proof of the duration, content and that it was satisfactorily completed. More precise information about the requirements for a letter of reference are in the background information for coordinators and employers.
  3. A completed copy of the Return Sheet.
  4. A copy of your Learning Agreement (work) / (study) and/or Special Consideration Form as appropriate.

You then need to do the following:

  1. Fill in the Modulschein and the Return Sheet. The Modultitel is Auslandsaufenthalt; there is no short title or course number. Make sure you [digitally] sign the Schein!
  2. Sign up for the Stud.IP course "3.02.086 Organisation and Supervision of Compulsory Stay Abroad [Anglistik/Amerikanistik]".
  3. Click on the tab "Auslandsaufenthalt - Anrechnung" and follow the instructions!

Note: this option only refers to getting credit for the stay abroad itself, and not to the transfer of credit points!

--

Any students studying French or Spanish at Uni Bremen who completed their compulsory stay abroad in their "other" language should make sure that both universities have the relevant paperwork - you may also need to submit proof of a stay in France, Spain or elsewhere to the Prüfungsamt in Oldenburg.

--

*All Lehramt students must complete these steps in addition to having any course credit transferred to Oldenburg (see below for further information). This must be done before registering for your Master’s thesis – please don’t leave the paperwork until the last minute!*

Exemptions and special consideration

Updated 02.09.22

The department is currently able to consider two types of special consideration requests.

  • Requests for alternatives to the standard criteria put forward by students with children, chronic illnesses, caring responsibilities and so on.
  • Requests relating to travel difficulties, cancelled places and health concerns directly related to the Coronavirus pandemic. (Note: purely online Ersatzleistungen are currently only available to students right at the end of their MEd studies or with familial/medical/caring issues; however, alternative activities in English in non-English-speaking countries are available to everybody.)

In both cases, students should contact the  via the Stud.IP course "3.02.086 Organisation and Supervision of Compulsory Stay Abroad [Anglistik/Amerikanistik]".for the latest information and to submit an application. In the course, within the course, click on the tab "Auslandsaufenthalt - Anrechnung" and follow the instructions!
