PhD Days

The ICBM PhD Days (german: Doktorand*innen Tage” serve to give researchers in the early stages of their careers an opportunity to present and discuss their research results at an early stage. They provide a platform for exchanging ideas about projects, discussing challenges or methods during the doctorate and developing an interdisciplinary network.

The Doctoral Candidate Days are aimed at doctoral candidates from the fields of marine sciences, biology and ecology, geochemistry and analytics or physics and modelling and related fields at the ICBM and take place annually at the ICBM in Oldenburg or at the site in Wilhelmshaven. The doctoral candidate days are an international symposium where all doctoral candidates can meet, invite speakers on specific topics, offer discussion rounds on specific topics or give presentations on their research.

International networking event

The ICBM Doctoral Candidate Days are also an institutional networking event that provides an opportunity to make new contacts with other doctoral candidates in the natural sciences or related fields and to welcome new doctoral candidates to the ICBM. The lectures will be held in English. The doctoral candidates themselves decide when they want to give a talk, discuss a method or actively present their topics during a poster session. Each doctoral candidate must present twice at an ICBM doctoral student day during the doctoral period.

Organisation

The ICBM Doctoral Candidates' Day is organised and run by doctoral candidates through an organising committee.

Aims of the event

The doctoral candidate days offer the opportunity to learn about a wide range of scientific expertise from the ICBM and cooperating working groups and to present their own research work. They support doctoral candidates in developing a network between working groups and finding appropriate contact persons / working groups at both locations for interdisciplinary questions of their own research project, discussing the situation of doctoral candidates in "modern times" (perspectives, problems, solutions) and spending a good time together with other colleagues and meeting other doctoral candidates in a relaxed atmosphere.

Hinweis

Due to the corona pandemic, no doctoral candidate days could take place for certain years; alternatively, the format "ICBM PhDs: Connected" was developed and is still offered for certain events.
