Section for Physiology and Modeling of Auditory Perception
Are you interested in writing a bachelor or master thesis? We gladly offer BSc and MSc thesis topics for students from the Neuroscience, Hearing Technology and Audiology, PTM (Physics, Engineering and Medicine), Physics, Engineering Physics, and Mathemathics programs. The primary prerequisite for an MSc thesis in our lab is a good command of signal processing and systems theory.
List of exemplary thesis topics
Type | Contact Person | Topic |
MSc | Niklas Isserstedt | Finding the hidden hearing loss with binaural psychophysics (Can be a joint project between Kollmeier and Dietz lab) |
BSc | Niklas Isserstedt | Sound source localization: Psychoacoustic experiments with normal hearing participants |
MSc | Rebecca Felsheim | Modelling of how a cochlear implant stimulates auditory nerve fibers (Matlab). Prerequisite: Introduction to Neurophysics (or similar) |
BSc | Rebecca Felsheim | Mapping latencies of hearing aids, cochlear implants, and the ear as a function of frequency and level. Based on literature and optional measurements. |
MSc | Rebecca Felsheim or Mathias Dietz | Mitigating localization bias in single sided deaf CI users. Prerequisite: Cochlear Implant course (joint project with the ENT clinic) |
MSc | Mathias Dietz | Towards a more fundamental explanation of individual speech intelligibility: Predicting phoneme discrimination based on simplistic but targeted diagnostic tests in listeners with mild hearing-impairment (joint project between Kollmeier and Dietz lab) |
BSc or MSc | Mohammad Dehghani | Deep neural network models of human sound localization |
Topics can be discussed individually and tailored to your preference and skills. Just contact Mathias Dietz or any other group member!
It is our priority that students can finish within the dedicated time normally corresponding to 15 ECTS (BSc thesis) or 30 ECTS (MSc Thesis).
We work mostly on-site, convinced that regular interaction between thesis students and other group members is mutually beneficial. On Fridays some students and staff opt for home office.
Before deciding on a group or a topic, MSc students are most welcome to learn more about our work by visiting our research seminar (5.04.4229).
