Modules
The UNILEAD programme consists of three modules, all with a foucs on Higher Education Management. The programme is highly practice-oriented and requires participants to play an active role.
Project Management
Content
Project Management is the core module of the UNILEAD Training Course.
In addition to theory, participants also learn the methods and tools for initiating and successfully implementing projects. This includes the creation of project plans, the identification of stakeholders, the implementation of risk management and the integration of financing. The aim is to enable participants to develop, organise, implement, complete and evaluate a project in a fully conceptual and practical way. In this way, the higher education managers learn all the important instruments and procedures for successful project management in higher education institutions.
Learning Outcome
The participants
- know theoretical approaches, project phases and project life cycles
- know concrete methods, instruments and procedures of Project Management
- are able to apply the methods and instruments learned to their individual projects and to design an own project action plan
- are able to develop and apply financial planning
- have acquired organisational and social skills
- have knowledge about the successful and efficient management of all kind of projects within Higher Education
- and are able to share their gained knowledge with colleagues to build stable networks.
Strategic Management & Academic Leadership
Content
The implementation of successful projects does not only require knowledge in the field of Project Management.
Rather, projects need to be managed strategically in order to be successful and sustainable.
In the module "Strategic Management & Academic Leadership", different models and instruments of leadership are taught in addition to the theory and goals of strategic management.
Different basics, concepts and methods are presented in the two areas. Within the framework of UNILEAD, Strategic Management is actively integrated into the development of a project plan and adapted to the strategy of the higher education institution. Parallel to this, a Leadership strategy is developed for the individual project and the acquisition of competencies as a leader take on a special position
Learning Outcome
The participants
- know concrete methods, instruments and procedures of Strategic Management
- have knowledge about the key dimensions of Strategic Management (analysis, evaluation, choice and implementation)
- are able to develop an individual strategy concept for their higher education institution
- apply tools and techniques of Academic Leadership
- are able to integrate vision, communication and team as key elements in their leadership style
- reflect about the applicability of Strategic Management and Academic Leadership in the Higher Education context and their individual project and
- are able to share their gained knowledge with colleagues to build stable networks.
Human Resource Management
Content
Also integrated into the curriculum is the module "Human Resource Management", which deals primarily with the goals and tasks of academic personnel management in educational and scientific institutions.
This is particularly relevant due to its central and strategic function in personnel-intensive organisations.
Contents are therefore the objectives and tasks of human resource management such as planning, recruitment, personnel development and employee retention.
Methods and instruments of how professional human resource management is carried out is also anchored in the module.

- understand the key terms, theories/concepts and practices within the field of Human Resource Management
- know the essential goals, functions and instruments of Human Resource Management
- are able to analyse the characteristics of Human Resource Management in (higher) educational and scientific institutions from an international point of view
- know the functions, systems, policies and applications of Human Resource Management in higher education organisations
- demonstrate skills and knowledge in the areas of human resources functions such as strategic human resources planning, recruitment, job analysis and design, compensation and benefits
- have the ability to understand and perform the human resource functions and to support the implementation of human resource processes, procedures and systems within an educational and scientific institution
- and can apply the key issues related to administering the human elements such as motivation, compensation, appraisal, career planning, diversity, ethics, and training
