Leadership in administration and management

Managers in administration can find regular events on leadership issues both in the UOL’s staff further education programme and in the interuniversity professional development programme (HüW). In addition, networking events take place once or twice a year for managers under the name “Leadership in the afternoon”, each with a current thematic focus.  There are also development programmes for employees who have only recently taken up management roles at the UOL. The aim of all programmes is to promote both the development of professional and personal skills as well as in-house networking and an exchange of views among colleagues.

Leadership topics in staff further education

In the staff further education programme PEOE.IP, you will find training courses on current leadership issues.

You can also find other training courses in the interuniversity professional development programme (HüW).

Leadership in the afternoon

Around once a year, the Vice President for Administration invites managers from central and decentralised administration to a joint further education course to discuss leadership issues. A personal invitation is required to attend these meetings, which also serve to promote networking. Meetings have already been held on the following topics:

  • Design Thinking
  • Intercultural Management – how does it work?
  • Using humour as a tool
  • Coronavirus – the end is in sight! How am I and my team doing?

Personnel development programmes

The University of Oldenburg regularly offers personnel development programmes for professionals and leaders in administration and management. The aim of the programme is to empower managers in their work and help them network with each other as well as to develop and nurture people with leadership potential. The 2022/2023 programme will run in three parallel groups on the following topics:

  • Communication and conversation techniques
  • Self-leadership and self-management
  • Managing employees, healthy leadership
  • Rights and duties of leadership
  • Organising personnel selection procedures
  • Designing change processes with process and project management
  • Change management, dealing with conflicts

Coaching

Individual coaching from an external coach provides support in demanding professional and personal development and change phases. When managers take on new tasks, are faced with key change processes, major projects or need support with essential prioritisation, external individual coaching over several hours may be helpful. In this context they can discuss how to identify goals and find solutions. The requesting organisational unit will finance coaching.

The PEOE department provides experienced coaches who work with issue-based and resource-oriented methods. We’re also happy to help with data protection-compliant commissioning. Anyone interested should email pe-oe.fuehrung@uol.de.
