University Clinic for Dermatology and Allergology at Oldenburg Hospital
At the University since: 2016
I am #UOL because...
... it offers me a unique environment where clinical practice, research and teaching come together. It allows me to contribute to the advancement of dermatology through innovative research, while at the same time I have the pleasure of being able to apprentice the next generation of physicians and treat patients according to the latest developments. The university environment fosters collaboration and innovation, which are crucial for breakthroughs in patient care and the scientific discoveries we make in our University Department of Dermatology with its certified Skin Cancer Centre and Comprehensive Allergy Centre.
What I like about my work...
...that the patient is at the centre of everything we do. No matter what topic we are dealing with - whether research, teaching or clinical work - our focus is always on the patient. Whether it's making a diagnosis, which in allergology takes on almost detective-like characteristics, surgical procedures or other treatments - we have a very multi-faceted and therefore highly interesting subject that requires a wide range of skills. This makes everyday life exciting, also in view of the fact that we treat the entire age spectrum from infants to the elderly.
A special moment for me at university was...
...the Innovation Award of the Federal Association of German Dermatologists 2020, in which I was honoured together with my ward manager Matthias Wilke for a clinical-translational work on patients in which we used a completely new, innovative tool - namely audiovisual stimulation - to treat chronic itching.
I would like to swap a week with...
...not so much because I really enjoy my work with the combination of research, teaching and patient care. However, I would love to sit in with my trumpet in the big band.
I wish the UOL all the best for the next 50 years...
...continued success in fostering an environment of excellence, innovation and collaboration as well as many cool events such as the Night of the Profs, where I have already had the honour of DJing three times together with the Professor of Anatomy, Anja Bräuer.
