Notes from the university
- The Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg of the Universities of Bremen and Oldenburg was officially opened in Delmenhorst on 13 October. The college building is currently being constructed in Delmenhorst at a cost of eight million marks. It will be completed in May and will then accommodate up to 21 fellows.
- Strengthening innovative capacity is the aim of a cooperation agreement on technology transfer between the REGIO Institute at the University and the districts of Friesland and Ammerland. The free advisory service is aimed at micro and small to medium-sized enterprises.
- In the 1998/99 winter semester, students will enrol on the first Master’s degree programme, the “Master of Science in Engineering Physics”, at the university, which has been established by the Department of Physics in collaboration with the Department of Natural Sciences and Technology at the East Frisia University of Applied Sciences. Forty students can enrol each year on the degree programme, in which English is the language of instruction, and at least half of these must be from abroad.
- The two new degree programmes, “Women’s and Gender Studies” and “Cultural Studies of Gender”, were officially launched on 27 November in the presence of Helga Schuchardt, Minister for Science.
- A survey of graduates conducted by the university shows that only 8.3 per cent are seeking employment. A total of 61 respondents are working in north-west Germany following graduation.
