Notes from the university
- The Hanseatic Science College of the Universities of Bremen and Oldenburg was officially opened in Delmenhorst on 13 October. The college building is currently being constructed in Delmenhorst at a cost of eight million marks. It will be completed in May and will then accommodate up to 21 fellows.
- The aim of a co-operation agreement on technology transfer between the REGIO Institute at the university and the districts of Friesland and Ammerland is to strengthen innovative capacity. The free counselling service is aimed at small to medium-sized companies.
- In the winter semester 1998/99, students will enrol for the first Master's degree programme "Master of Science Engineering Physics" at the University, which the Department of Physics has set up together with the Department of Natural Science Technology at the University of Applied Sciences East Friesland. The degree programme, in which English is the language of instruction, is open to 40 students per year, at least half of whom must come from abroad.
- The two new degree programmes "Women's and Gender Studies" and "Cultural Gender Studies" were officially opened on 27 November in the presence of Science Minister Helga Schuchardt.
- A survey of graduates conducted by the university shows that only 8.3 % are looking for work. A total of 61 respondents are working in north-west Germany after graduation.
