"Pioneer of the university": Reto Weiler bids farewell to retirement
Prof Dr Reto Weiler, neurobiologist and former Vice President of the University, retired today after 32 years of service with a ceremony in the Old State Parliament. In his speech, University President Prof. Dr Dr Hans Michael Piper emphasised that Weiler, who was also Rector of the Hanse Wissenschaftskolleg for many years, had always been an enormously important pioneer for the entire university. His creative power had been decisive for the successes that characterise the university today. With his research, he set the course for the recently extended cluster of excellence Hearing4all at an early stage and also played a decisive role in the founding of University Medicine Oldenburg. "Reto Weiler is a person who inspires enthusiasm for his ideas and their realisation," said Piper. Guests at the event also included Lord Mayor Jürgen Krogmann and keynote speaker Prof. Dr Eckart Altenmüller from the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media.
