North of the Arctic Circle
An excursion led by Ingo Mose took students from several Master's degree programmes to Lapland in northern Sweden. The trip took place as part of the "Nature Conservation in Practice" module and was aimed at several national parks and nature reserves. North of the Arctic Circle, the students were able to trace the beginnings of area protection in Europe: in 1909, Sweden established the first national parks on the continent in the high mountain region of Skanden. Various other thematic aspects of regional development complemented the excursion programme. Students from the University of Vienna, led by Norbert Weixlbaumer, also took part in the excursion. The universities of Oldenburg and Vienna have a long-standing partnership through the ERASMUS programme.
RuralGeo2023
RuralGeo2023 took place at the University of Groningen from 26 to 30 July. The international conference focussed on various rural development issues and brought together scientists from all over Europe. Several members of the Applied Geography and Environmental Planning working group also took part in the conference and contributed their own presentations and sessions.
Across the Lüneburg Heath
Participants in the Nature Conservation in Practice module visited Lüneburg Heath Nature Park on 14 July under the guidance of Ingo Mose. The one-day excursion took the group on foot from Niederhaverbeck to the Toten Grund and from there via the village of Wilsede to the Wilseder Berg. At the end of the day, the managing director of the nature park, Hilke Feddersen, answered the students' questions.
Excursion to Copenhagen
Students from several Master's degree programmes visited Copenhagen from 27 to 31 March 2023. Led by Ingo Mose and Maren Kleinau, the group discussed various issues relating to the sustainability transition in the context of urban development, for which Copenhagen has made a name for itself as "Europe's Green Capital".
