BAföG

Information on Bafög

I need proof that I am duly enrolled on a degree programme (in accordance with Section 48) and my first subject is German Studies

  • Certificates under Section 15 are issued by the Examinations Office
  • Please email the complete documents (transcript from Stud.IP), stating the academic semester, to
    .
  • Alternatively, you may also submit the complete documents (please state which semester you are currently in) in person at the office of the Institute for German Studies to Ms Walljahn* (Room A10 3-303). Please note Ms Walljahn’s office hours (see here) to ensure you can hand in your documents to her in person.

*Substitutes only in the event of holiday or illness:
Ms Glombek, V03-S345, or Ms Kruse, A10-3-302.

Here’s what happens next after you’ve handed in your documents:

  • The documents will be signed by Ms Goschler and can normally be collected from Ms Walljahn within two working days. (During the lecture-free period, this may take considerably longer).
  • ‘Complete documents’ means you must submit the following:
    1. Form 5, which you must complete in lines 3 to 9 (see sample template). Lines 10–24 are completed by the university.
    2. A certificate of your previous examination results, certified by the Examinations Office.
    3. An enrolment certificate stating which subject semester you are in for German Studies and which semester of your degree programme you are currently in. (For example, if you have changed your subject, the semester numbers may differ).
    4. Please provide your email address and a mobile phone number so that we can contact you if we have any queries.

How many KP do I need to provide evidence of?

The following must be demonstrated by the end of the

  • 3rd semester: 67 credit points,
  • 90 credit points at the end of the 4th semester,
  • 120 credit points by the end of the 5th semester.

I need another form of identification

In all other cases, you must consult the BAföG officer for the German Studies programme, Prof. Dr Juliana Goschler, during her office hours (see lecturers’ office hours). Please contact Ms Walljahn first. In most cases, it will then no longer be necessary to consult Ms Goschler.
