Regional places of remembrance
Regional places of remembrance
The book "Oldenburger Erinnerungsorte" has been published!
At first glance, kale and spelt, Count Anton Günther and the University of Oldenburg don't seem to have much in common. For most Oldenburg residents, however, these three things are an inseparable part of their city and help to define it. They are "Oldenburg places of remembrance", just like honorary citizens, flight/displacement/integration, pedestrian zone, Helene Lange, Horst Janssen, Karl Jaspers, Lamberti Church, Oldenburg under the spell of the swastika flag, Peter Friedrich Ludwig, horses, Low German, Battle of Altenesch, castle, Trolli and Pekol buses and VfB Oldenburg/old stadium.
Places of remembrance are not just places in the material sense. They are "long-lasting crystallisation points of collective memory and identity that last for generations" (François/Schulze). This volume provides an insight into the "memory household" of the people of Oldenburg, shows how these memories have changed over the course of time and clarifies what constitutes Oldenburg's identity.
The book is published by Isensee Verlag Oldenburg and costs €19.80.
