In the summer of 2026, 143 young skilled workers from the Oldenburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) area completed their apprenticeships with a ‘very good’ grade. The IHK honoured them on Friday 21 August at the Kleine EWE-Arena in Oldenburg. Among them was Louisa Marie Weyel.
Louisa Marie Weyel completed her training at the Institute of Chemistry under the supervision of training supervisor Willi Rathje. During her training, she spent nine months working at the ICBM, in the Organic Geochemistry Research Group. Her duties there included, amongst other things, preparing standards for elemental analysis and processing sediment samples for measurement. A key focus of her work was the preparation of house dust samples for the AURORA project, with the aim to investigate microplastic exposure in indoor environments. The ICBM warmly congratulates Loiusa on this outstanding achievement.
Following the successful completion of her training, Louisa was taken on by the research group. Since then, she has been working primarily in the microplastics laboratory and assists with the preparation and supervision of practical sessions. The research group is soon expecting new samples from the exposure study – this time denatured blood samples – which she will once again prepare for measurement via pyrolysis.
